Cinesite’s Digital Evolution

When global visual effects and animation powerhouse Cinesite approached Vision Tank, we saw a great opportunity to enhance their digital presence. Rather than building a new site, we agreed to roll out a refreshed version using the existing framework. We began by researching Cinesite’s needs and auditing their current site, identifying key areas for improvement and recommending a strategic path forward to elevate their online experience.

Planning an elevated experience

Before diving into design, we embarked on a thorough review of Cinesite’s site and its information architecture. This initial audit included creating comprehensive user flows. We discovered that the site contained several “dead ends” where users weren’t seamlessly guided to their next step.

Our goal was to improve the user journey, ensuring visitors could quickly find the information they needed and then have a clear pathway to utilise it.

Whether applying for a job, viewing showreels of recent work or making contact with their core teams across VFX, Immersive or Animation, every user interaction needed a purpose. Cinesite were open to our early input, allowing us to build a productive working relationship from the outset.

With a refined user flow established, we set out to refresh the site’s aesthetic, beginning with the homepage. Drawing inspiration from Cinesite’s distinctive logo, we subtly integrated its iconic lozenge shape throughout the pages, embedding the brand’s identity into the user experience and reinforcing brand awareness.

We also enhanced the existing colour palette by refining the core colours to increase vibrancy, contrast and visual clarity, creating a more striking and polished look.

To maintain consistency, we developed creative elements that could be applied across the entire website, ensuring a cohesive and unified visual language. The overall quality of the website was designed to reflect the craftsmanship of Cinesite’s work.

Enhancing engagement with content

Beyond visual improvements, a major focus was on improving user interaction and content navigation. We designed user-centric features to clearly communicate Cinesite’s offerings through imagery, video and text. Interactive components such as sliders and accordions were introduced to present complex information in a more engaging and accessible way.

In close collaboration with the Cinesite team, we refined the presentation of their three core services: VFX, Animation and Immersive. Our initial user flow analysis informed strategic changes, including the placement of clear Calls-to-Action throughout the site. These ensure users always know what to do next, where to go or who to contact.
